The modern two handed rod has evolved into a much more versatile fishing tool than the Scots of long ago had in mind when they fashioned rods made from Greenheart wood of up to 20 feet long. Today the two handed rod is not only used in the tradition of Spey casting for Atlantic Salmon, there are several very specific applications, as well. Skagit casting has proven to be a very effective method for taking steelhead; there are lighter, shorter two handed rods for pursuing trout and overhead applications such as on jetties or in the surf to launch flies at a variety of saltwater species.
The TFO Professional Series two handed rods are medium fast action rods available from an 11' 5wt to a 15' 10wt. TFO has added two Scandanavian style rods, a 13'9" 9/10 wt and a 14'9" 10/11wt plus a 13'3" 8wt rod specifically designed for Skagit style fishing. The 12' 12wt (AFFTA rated) TiCr is a fast action rod designed for overhead line launching.
