Cowens’ Albie Anchovy 4-6 by Henry Cowens (Atlanta, GA):
False Albacore and Bonita can be very selective as to baitfish size and color. This pattern has undergone several incarnations, mostly due to introductions of new tying materials. But it is designed to imitate Bay Anchovies that become an important prey item in the Fall from Massachusetts to Maryland, and in the Spring and the Fall in Florida. The size of these baits ranges from 1” to 2”. The current incarnation of this fly reflects the careful use of materials:
- Tail = Polarfiber which breaths and moves better than any available material
- Epoxy over EZ-Body Braid for the scale-like appearance.
This has been sold from the Orvis catalogue (and thus in Orvis stores) for last two years, and one of their best selling East-coast patterns. This is also an outstanding fly for Spanish Mackerel.
